Spanish RIP?
“English is for business, French for love and Spanish for God.” Charles V, a Spanish king, used to say this about languages. He considered Spanish a rich language, with lots of words to express our feelings and thoughts. I am focusing on Spanish because it seems that we Mexicans, do not feel proud of our language. I point out this because Spanish is being reduced in different fields every day in the Mexican Republic by us Mexicans.
Here are some examples:
a)New generations are using “chido” constantly to describe a series of actions and nouns that they like. It looks this word is the only adjective in our vocabulary.
b)Another word is “way” to address each other. The funniest thing is that the people that use this noun do not know its spelling.
c)Our professional soccer players cannot make a single sentence accurately and utter “este” more than any other ”word”.
d)In the media, it is so sad and worrying to see how reporters, journalists, speakers, writers and advertising companies use Spanish incorrectly. We can hear on the radio “hubieron”, “ambos dos”,“fuistes” and dirty language to raise the rating of a program. In the newspapers we see lots of abbreviations, words without accents and words in all capital letters with no accents. There are billboards with wrong misspellings “tanbién” for example. On the news, there are a great many grammar mistakes such as “mañana comienza el congreso”, “termina el programa” and ”evacuaron a la gente”. The incorrect use of ordinal numbers such as “el veinteavo aniversario” and the incorrect stress pattern of “se adecua” and “se negocia”, stressed not on the second syllable, but on the third are other examples. Invitations are sometimes badly written “los invitamos a la película la cuál se…” and there are many errors in Spanish subtitles in movies “sé fue”, “sé enojo”, “mas lejos”, etc.
e)At schools, on bulletin boards the word “ingles” is written without an accent and with an initial capital letter in the middle or at the end of a sentence. Titles now are coupled with first names “la profesora Lety”, “Miss. Marta”. The use of incorrect punctuation –currently it is “in” to write a period at the end of each word or phrase when it is not required. It is so surprising to see that many students, at any level, omit the accent mark when spelling their first or last names.
f)Our Mexican president stresses words incorrectly. He thinks that all Spanish words are “esdrújulas”. Pay attention the next time you hear him speak.
In short, I would like to share an extract from a book called 1984 by George Orwell.
“Neolengua era la lengua oficial de Oceanía y fue creada para solucionar las necesidades ideológicas de Insog o Socialismo Inglés…”, “..el vocabulario de la neolengua era mínimo, y continuamente inventaban nuevos modos de reducirlo.” “…su vocabulario se empequeñecía en vez de agrandarse. Cada reducción era una ganancia, ya que cuanto menor era el área para escoger, más pequeña era la tentación de pensar. En definitiva, se espera construir un lenguaje articulado que surgiera de la laringe sin involucrar en absoluto a los centros del cerebro.”
By the way, 1984 is the origin of the concept of “Big Brother”. This book was written in 1949.

Well, this article is so hard and hurt but is true, most of the people do not matter what the correct way of speaking is, they only think in an easy way of speaking with somebody but without having to remember their names.
The people thinks that this kind of language is normal for younger people that it is something that will finish in some years, but not only young people are speaking of that way, adult people are also beginning to speak with that mistaken language and it is very possible that this never finishes.
The ignorance is covering the country and it is the principal consequence of the wrong way to talk and write, if people do not stop to see soap operas, big brother and all this stupid programs the ignorance will cover everything.
The only recommendation to stop this is to leave of see those stupid programs, substituting them with the reading or seeing educational programs.

Wow, It´s article is very interesting, but the deformations on the language in the young people is consequence of the absence of identity, for example, many people try to mix up English with Spanish.
Also de T.V. programs, advertisement and few radio programs influence because insted of corret the bad apply of the words, they use them deformations for bring near.
finally I believe the most beutiful and wonderful language in all the world is the Spanish

The article abouat Spanish language is unfortanely true, in my opinion the biggest problem it´s find in bad quality of our education sistem, because not support the practice about to improve reading or writing, since the first level until the university. Also, is very important to pint out, that de relatives not to motivate their child to practice the skills aforementioned, nowadays most people to prefer "the easy way", by the Internet, they don´t read complete books, only the summary. Finally I think that our mother tonge(Spanish) is a cultural treasure,most be preserved for everyone.
I believe that the goverment could be the beginer of this problem. The president is the first person who talks with bad words or incorrectly form.
This argument is very well because I didn´t know that reduce the voacbulary can affect to population.
I think that this happen because the most of people don´t read and learn more about the politic or something that affect our country.
Many guys spend their time on things that It doesn´t help to improve their vocabulary.
I think that the goverment make TV programs with a little gramar or words in order to young people doesn´t realize about the problems in our country.

Well, this article say only the true.
Many times we don't pay attention in our vocabulary, and I think that for many persons it's not important how they speak.
Maybe it's blame of our culture, because in Mexico don't exist a culture of reading, (but read a real and good books not like stupid magazines or any garbage like "vaquero" or something like that¡¡)

I think the spanish is not died, only is changing to a globalized world and unfortunately we don´t have the culture and the enough love to keep our lenguage as the begining, is sad, but is the reality.
Hi!. I`m argentinian but i speak spanish too. I think the language change all the time and for me it`s good. Like the world, it can`t stop the time and social mouvements. It`s a LIFE!!!!!! You `re think about the language of the middle age. The language must be like our life if not I can`t express myself.
If you see the incorrects or news words but you understand the mean of the words, it`s ok!
In my opinion the article is true , more in poor society because of, there are lot problems for better in other situation but yet not all be lose in the society Mexican only, I think, the goverment should give more attention of diferent organizations how the SEP, SE, SRE, etc. for look for change in culture of mexican and try of development with all posibilities.

I think that is more than a way to speak , I mean most of the Mexican young people is always worried about " be on fashion " and that concept includes particularly the words, the form to speak with your friends is very important, because if you use some weird words you are being ORIGINAL and it doesn`t matter how stupid you could be. In addition there are some important factors that help this situation , the T.V. is the most important in my opinion because it creates only "bull shit" in its new programs for example incognito and the "biggest stupid program" (for me) otro rollo.
But if we are guilty about that because we see it and the worse part we want to speak like they.
I am totally agree with the mayority of your comments, it is so poor our vocabulary and also is so sad to hear how children and almost all the people use incorrectly the Spanish. I think we really need urgently find a solution; this solution is inside schools and home, We need to correct our children when they use bad words and not celebrete with them because they had learn a new bad world, We need to correct our children as our father and grandfather do it with our generations. But we need to began with us, increasing our vocabulary by reading books every day.

But the most important it isn`t to criticize the way to speak, i mean we know we speak with bad words, so we have to improve our lenguage, for example reading good magazines, changing the president FOX, watching good programs, educating better our children,etc
Our lenguage it`s very important for us, and for our future, so we have to eliminate the bad words and learn interesting things. Thats my opinion.

This atrticle is very true unfortunatly, I think the reason of this problem is because our the Mexican don"t have the enough education and culture. And I think that the langegue i´ts write way is an art and is terrible that we don´t apreciete this and is terrible that we dont kmow write and speak our own langague.

Reducing the language is frustrating for me, we have so many so rich words in its context and many of them we do not know to appreciate them, people generally prefer to adopt some words without common sense we needed to have one ideology but ample and full of argumentos and bases so that a conversation or a test, etc is but deep and full of sense.

I think that people speak that way because doesn't know another way, but the question is why? Well, I think it is because they DON'T read and they watch a lot of TV programs, programs like "Otro Rollo" decrease de spanish for example Adal Ramones all the time invents a new word like "inguesu" or something similar and when you hear that word you tend to repeat it.

I agree whit this comentary because for misfortune the vocabulary to make vulgar. In everywhere that heart the word "guey" all this because of programs on T.V like Big Brother that don´t have nothing of culture and don´t showed nothing benefit the youngpeople.Our languaje be change as much as whit other languages and those to absorb the attention of others. For that is important don´t follow this line and don´t imitate all they heart and have one right vocabulary.
The Spanish Language is very extensive and not to be able to use it correctly when we spoke but the opposite we spoke with errors grammar or the worse thing is to use vulgar words. The sad thing is that the children are learning to speak the Spanish badly and the main cause is because of the adults and of some mass media speak bad the Spanish Language.

We don't learn to spanish at school, We learn at home then We learn the right way the use of grammar at school but, if we don't read and practice will never use language in right way.
Now people don't speak, only send messages by email and msn and We try to write as quickly as We can. Without worrying about errors.
We need to talk and read more.

I think the problem is in the globalization, all the conuntries now are including new words in their vocabularies, like japaneses who in their vocabulary called katakana include new words and the old japaneses say they day to day don't know their own language.
But other problem is the people don't try to improve their form of speak and don't use correctly the spanish.

About b), it's not "way". It's either "buey", "wey" or "güey". I use it and I know its spelling and its meaning ;)
when I was younger, 40 years ago, the people from the middle class showed regard to their friend calling "brother"; the homeless calling one to other "guey".
It is regrettable that nowadays the youngers have choiced the worst option.
I saw in the movie the film 1984, I liked very much.
In my opinion, I agree with the suggestion that it´s necessary to take care our language, yes, we can take courses about how talk and write correctly in spanish. So we can speak and talk better.

The better form to improve our vocabulary is reading and speak correctly because some times don't correct our mistakes and we doing bad habits to speak.

I think that the correct way to spell and write the word says how is the person and his or her education.
Spoken correctly makes you a better person who can imagine that the correct way to spoke bring to you new oportunities and relations.
That's our sad reality, I think there are many factors that influence, for example, the TV programs of Televisa and TV Azteca, I don't know hoy many programs they exhibit but I think the 95% are really bad and conduced by people who don't speak well and others have a terrible vocabulary because of "the fashion" also, contents is not good, unfortunatly, a lot of people watch this kind of programs and learn to speak bad Spanish.
In other cases, people descend from a family that didn't have the opportunity to get a good preparation and obviously, they learnt a lot of thing from them.
I THINK SPANISH IS A VERY RICH LENGUAGE, AND IN THIS DAYS WE, THE YOUNG PEOPLE, USE SOME WORDS TO IDENTIFY OURSELVES, I DON´T THINK THAT´S INCORRECT, BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE WITH OTHER PEOPLE. Well, I think that it's important to take in consideration this article because many times people talk with another person and this people don't realise that the words that they use are wrong.
For this reason I promise to pay attention in my speaking and the use of the words that I use.
Personsally, I think this way to speak is that makes our country unique, because we use more than we have, thats part of our culture and this exist in all the countries, even the accent of the people of diferent zones of Mexico, all the "modismos" and special words shows the ideology of a group of peple, by the way you wrote "way" adn the correct way is "wey".

Spanish RIP Honestly, the idea sounds awful, but it's true, our
language is dieing… we are killing it, day by day, hour by hour,
each time we speak… We must be concern about it, but it seem that
it really doesn't matter, we (and I am saying WE because everyone
is a little guilty) prefer to be quiet, to criticize people who
don’t speak well instead of correct them, Why we do this?… because
is easier, and we have to admit it, sometimes is fun. What we can
do? We must do our best every day, speak well, correct people who
don't, read more, write more, use our language as much as we can,
and most important, feel proud of it, because Spanish is one of the
most beautiful languages in the world, and being a Spanish speaker
is not a condition, is a privilege. We must act right now, because
we are losing the most important things that we, as Mexican people,
have: our language. ……We already lost our original language, please
don't do the same with Spanish.
In our language we have many ideoms that is why forainge people thik that spanish es very difficult to lern, but we need to lern differents ways to express ouurselft in a correct way and try to express our ideas clearly but that kind of things happens in all the lenguges

Our mexican culture is so extense that nowadays nobody is banned to be informed about politicians, crimes, architecture and other precious things that envolve our country. We have a big big dictionary in which you can find any quantity if words that you as a native Spanish speaker don't know very well. As you said George it's very sad and worrying to know about those people who are "Prepared" or "Well-fixed" and they don't know how to give a better usage of Spanish and I think it also depends on the TV programs that influence everybody with their language, mainly teenagers and children that are like sponges they learn what they hear, observe or taste in their own homes. Although there are few people that increase their vocabulary and open theri minds , it's a little beginning to start learning from others.

First of all I would like to say tha I feel proud of my language, Anybody can't speak Spanish. however is true that we have become poor because We do not use the correct expresions many times for ignorance, there is not education or people do not want to read.
In my opinion we instead of thinking that the Spanish is dying We should worry to become rich.
